Shiatsu — a complete manual therapy
The word shiatsu literally means “finger pressure” in Japanese. Developed in the 20th century by Tokujiro Namikoshi based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, shiatsu is today recognized in Japan as an official medical practice. It acts on the tsubos — precise points located on the energy meridians — through sustained pressure, stretching and joint mobilizations.
Each meridian is associated with an organ and a functional system. By working on these points, the shiatsu practitioner seeks to harmonize the energy flow, to correct the imbalances which manifest themselves in the form of physical tension, fatigue, stress or organic dysfunctions.
The benefits of shiatsu
- Deep energetic rebalancing — Particularly effective for people who feel exhausted for no apparent reason, out of balance, or disconnected from their body.
- Reduction of stress and anxiety - Shiatsu regulates the autonomic nervous system with remarkable effectiveness.
- Improved sleep — Working on the meridians associated with the kidneys and heart significantly improves the quality of sleep.
- Headache relief — Cranial and cervical shiatsu is particularly effective for tension headaches and recurring migraines.
- Digestive support — Working on the spleen, stomach and liver meridians improves digestive comfort and reduces bloating.
